Chyk Walk - Shiva Yaathirai

A group of youngsters walked to Lord Shiva temple at Tiruvaalangaadu in Tiruvallur district. The yatra started at Veera-raagavar temple and it was a 17 km walk.

Tiruvaalangaadu is named so because it used to be a forest of banyan trees. Therefore the name Tiru + aalam + kaadu.

The Lord is worshiped in the name vata-aranya-ishwarar. This is the place where Lord Shiva and Devi had a dance fight and the Lord stunned Her when he took the fallen stud from the ears by His one foot and put it back onto His ears. Temple is more than 2000 years old. It is believed that kaaraikaal ammaiyaar eternally worships the Lord there.
