Inspirations from Talks by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda Om Namo bhagavate   vaivasvatAya mrityave brahmavidyAchAryAya nachiketase cha ShrEyas alias vidyA and prEyas alias avidyA are poles apart because the goal, seekers and means are all different. Those who seek the later come again and again under the sway of death. When a competent teacher and student come together it is a wonder. Why is it not comprehended even after being instructed? The answer is given. 1.2.8 न नरेणावरेण प्रोक्त एष सुविज्ञेयो बहुधा चिन्त्यमानः । अनन्यप्रोक्ते गतिरत्र नास्ति अणीयान् ह्यतर्क्यमणुप्रमाणात् ॥ ८॥ This atma tatvam is not easily understood   ( na suvigjnEyah ) when it is taught, instructed or revealed by a teacher of inferior quality ( narEna avarEna ) who may be learned and a good speaker but called inferior if mind is not purified and not abiding in the knowledge.

Inspirations from Talks by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda Om Namo bhagavate  vaivasvatAya mrityave brahmavidyAchAryAya nachiketase cha 1.2 4 दूरमेते विपरीते विषूची अविद्या या च विद्येति ज्ञाता । विद्याभीप्सिनं नचिकेतसं मन्ये न त्वा कामा बहवोऽलोलुपन्त ॥ ४॥ What we call shreyas is vidyA and preyas is avidyA ( ignorance) and both are poles apart ( dUram ) and divergent i.e. leading to opposite goals ( viparItE ). Yamaraj ji says “I consider Nachiketas seeker of vidyA . Because all these very desirable objects did not tempt you.”

Inspirations from Talks by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda Om Namo bhagavate   vaivasvatAya mrityave brahmavidyAchAryAya nachiketase cha 1.2.1 We all think we have many options in front of our life but actually we have only 2 options – to follow: the path of Shreyas (values) or preyas (valuables). अन्यच्छ्रेयोऽन्यदुतैव प्रेय - स्ते उभे नानार्थे पुरुषँ सिनीतः । तयोः श्रेय आददानस्य साधु भवति हीयतेऽर्थाद्य उ प्रेयो वृणीते ॥ १॥ One is shreyas and the other is preyas . These two are of different goals ( nAnArthE ) and both bind a person ( sinItah ). But of the two, for the one who choses shreyas, for him, all good ( sAdhu ) comes to him and life is fulfilled. The one who choses preyas slips ( hIyate ) from the attainment of human goal ( arthAt ).
