Harihara Vidyalaya

Understanding that good education forms the foundation block in the reconstruction of any community, Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda established a free Harihara Vidyalaya School in the year 1990 with a vision to cater free education to the underprivileged children of the villages. Currently children from 15 villages scanning about 3 km radius benefit from this school which is situated in Thamaraipakkam village, 40 kms Northwest of Chennai.

  • A free school for rural children
  • Serving 15 villages
  • Benefiting 330 children
  • Holistic growth through value education
  • Free uniforms, books, bags, water bottles and other school material

Need for The Free School Facility

  • Caters to children from Below Poverty Line families
  • Majority of the children studying here are the 1st generation to attend a school
  • Number of girl children receiving free education is 160

Vision (in the words of Gurudev)

We propose to launch many Harihara schools within the next five years. The students will be given vocational training in their traditional arts and crafts besides the basic literacy and skills needed to manage their trade profitably. Each school will have a workshop, a common prayer hall, and other required facilities. The vocational teachers will be experienced craftsmen of the locality. The students would also be given leadership skills and a strong base of culture and values, and become independent and self-employed, proud of their culture and confident of their own ability to contribute to the community. They would become the future leaders of their village and guide their entire community towards progress and prosperity.

Current Status
Harihara Vidyalaya has now grown to accommodate 350 children in classes from LKG to 10th standard. The first batch students passed out in the year 2019 after completing their 10th standard.
So far, many benevolent hearts have given magnanimously to this noble cause. We are striving to meet the vision of pujya gurudev for which the next immediate step is to construct a vocational training center.
